We were all packed up and ready to go on the next leg of our adventure by 8:30 AM. After ensuring all our luggage was properly tagged and identified we were on our way. The first 10 KM or so went well, then we slowed to about 30 KM per hour as we competed with the crowdheading for the ski/sun resort in Southern Poland. This went on for over an hour when we were able to divert to another route and make much more headway on our way south. Despite the slow progress we were able to enjoy the magnificent scenery along the way. Very different from the flatlands around Warsaw, the further south we travelled the more hilly and green the terrain as we headed towards the Tatras mountain range. Before reaching Slovakia we took a rest stop just inside Poland. Here we spent the last of our Zloty’s and had a bathroom break. We enjoyed buying beer that was cheaper than Coke, and I am not sure what the Polish men thought of the Canadian Women that invaded their bathroom.
Our next stop was a lovely cafeteria style restaurant in Hungary. The meals tasted very good, but Barb and Harry bought a chicken Kabob that was big enough to feed at least three people – good thing we were sharing!
One more stop just inside Hungary, then we completed the last part of today’s journey into Budapest to meet our ship. We said a fond farewell to our Guide Grazyna and driver ‘Chester’. They have both been very good to us and we appreciate their skills, efficiencies and friendly attitude.
We arrived at the Viking Danube just in time to check in, then go to an orientation meeting and then supper – no wonder the picture guy didn’t sell us any pictures of ourselves!
After dinner a couple of our group went on to the Hungary Folk show, and the rest – after a tour around the ship turned in. Here are a couple of shots of Budapest at night from the Danube River.
