Arrival in Orlando!

What an interesting day! We went to bed really early last night, so by 2 am we were awake and ready to go. Therefore – we took our time, and left the hotel around 3 AM headed for our car park, then took a shuttle to the airport. We took off around 5:15 headed via Phoenix to Orland. We arrived at just before 4 PM in Orlando. The flight was great, though we learned that US Airlines does not have anything that even closely resembles in-flight entertainment. The exception was that you could get free but limited WIFI, or any WIFI for $14.95 per flight. No movies, or even tunes available. Any food – with the exception of non-alcoholic drinks was available for a fee. After the first round, only coffee and water were complementary, though you could sign up for a MasterCard and get lots of free miles. We did however have two great seat mates – one male, the Operations Manager for an advertising company, and a lovely retired lady who was going to meet her husband in Arizona for the trip back to home in Washington State. The view out the window coming into and leaving Phoenix was magnificent – we will have to spend time there sometime in the future.
Anyway – once in Orlando (temperature 80 F)– we took a shuttle to the baggage pick-up, then went to pick up our rental car. This was included in our package, but there was an error – which took about 30 minutes to straighten out. Seems that eTours had said our car pickup and drop-off were both in Ft. Lauderdale – but we were in Orlando. Oh well – it all got straightened out, and we now have a cute KIA, and headed for our package pick-up. It was about 20 KM from the airport – no big deal – but we were glad we to the Garmin. We picked up our package – and it directed us to our hotel – BUT – when we drove the block and a half – we learned that we were not booked there – but in the Sonesta in Downtown Orlando.
We plunked the address into our Garmin and headed for the hotel. Back – past the airport and into the centre of Orlando. But now – here were are – a lovely hotel – in downtown Orlando. We had a drink and a small dinner and are now in our hotel room – ready for a good night’s sleep and tomorrow’s adventures.
