Monday April 26th - Heading Home

Our time in Cabo has come to on end, time to head back to the reality of families and work commitments. Most spent the last few hours in the sun, or shopping, then checking out and finally loaded onto busses to head to the airport. More lineups and security and waiting. The duty free beckoned and there were a few shops but for mostly we just waited and visited in the lounge for the hour or so before the long trip back through Calgary to Vancouver.

It has been a great vacation with much thanks to spouses, partners, associates, assistants and of course the management team. Signing off for this wonderful trip to Cabo - Barb

Sunday April 25th

Our last full day in Paradise with the sun burning hot in the sky. Time to spend getting the last full day to add to our tans. Some are darker than others. As you can see we had lots of fun in the pool while working on those tans. Cody finally got that chair sunk.

There is another Canucks game tonight, so some have chosen an early supper, while others waited until the 8 PM sitting. Six of us enjoyed a wonderful Japanese dinner complete with a very entertaining chief and a great meal. We understand that a few of our group at on earlier setting experimented will a special drink including Saki; chopsticks and beer. Perhaps ask Rick about that.

To celebrate our last evening and a favorable hockey outcome we headed out to the beach fire pits for a few festivities which included roasting some gigantic marshmallows. tomorrow we have a late check out (about 3 PM) then head home on th 8:40 flight through Calgary.

Saturday April 24th

Another beautiful day in paradise. Time to sit by the poolside and have great conversations with colleagues, or to be a little more active. Time to test out all the letters of the alphabet at the swim-up bar, or to go parasailing.

The four (Doris and Herm and Barb and Harry) that went parasailing took a cab into Cabo San Lucas, were dropped off near ‘The Office’ and immediately were approached by the sellers of the parasailing adventure. We piled into a water taxi which took us to the parasailing boat out in the harbour. First to brave the heights were Barb and Harry. After a great flight we were happy to turn the reins or should we say harnesses to Herm and Doris. The view from these great heights is magnificent, and the ride was made a little more exciting by the wind that gave the sail a chance to dip, dive and side slip – a little – but not too much. Everyone agreed it was well worth the $40 each that we paid. What a great time – as can be seen by the smiles on the pictures.

Back at the Barcelo – time to relax and have that last drink before dinner. The ambiance and the food in the Spanish Restaurant – the El Cortigo – were both great.Others ate French at the Bon Vivant or Italian at the Capri.

After dinner we all gathered on the beach to enjoy the waves and cool breeze off the ocean. A few enjoyed a wonderful Cuban Cigar. Then those who were not totally bagged were off to try to try to crash (unsuccessful I understand) the disco that was being held for the President’s Club of the EMC Corporation. The end to a really great day, and looking forward to tomorrow - which, unfortunately will be our last full day.

Friday April 23rd

Today was a pool day – lots of time spent lazing around the pool with a drink and lots of sun screen. The big challenge is moving from the big pool in the centre of the resort to the adult pool in the afternoon – all to chase the sun.The wind was really active today, and that kept things a little cooler for meal time, but the sun was really hot. Time for a few pictures including this self portrait by Brad.

We said good-bye to Kim and Andrew at noon as they had to return home for another commitment. We will miss their input – but we understand that Rick is well prepared to take over thanks to all the hard work done by Cathy before we left town.

Evening was on our own, some went into town while others enjoyed the International Buffet. Great food and this delightful bread sculpture.

The later part of the evening included watching the Canucks win again (Go Canucks Go) and a game or two of 8-ball.

Thursday April 22nd

This morning we awoke to another beautiful day, after breakfast most of us met on the deck to catch a few rays. The news came that Brad and Cathy were able to join us this evening. We have missed them, but family illness has kept them at home. Great news. Andrew has done a fabulous job of making sure everyone has an appropriate room and this is a challenge as there is a huge party of 300 people arriving today.

This afternoon five of us went back to the same lovely restaurant in San Jose – the Tropicana. Here we splurged on a wonderful Mexican feast and a drink or two. After lunch we explored this old hotel a little more, and came across Paco the Parrot. Then on to a bit of shopping and back to the Barcelo.

We arrived back just as Brad and Cathy were checking in, so we all visited a bit, took time out for a martini - like this Sea of Cortez Martini then cleaned up for our group dinner in the Japanese Restaurant. The food was great and company better. A truly international meal with a Thai soup, followed by three lovely pieces of sushi, then an Indian chicken curry and a choice of three or was it four different desserts.

After dinner we again gathered around a fireplace to wrap up the evening doing really important things like comparing shoe sizes, generally enjoying each other’s company. Another great day in Cabo San Lucas
