For some this morning started very early with a return trip up to
Machu Picchu to hike all the way to the Sun Gate and beyond. Geri, Joanne, Ken, and Maureen
made
it as far as the
Sun Gate, while Art and Anne Marie went even further than the Sun Gate – and as Art says “we stretched ourselves as far as we could go”. They got some wonderful pictures – thank you
Joanne for sharing, but often had to wait for the mist to clear. Those of us who had wanted to go but could not for various reasons were really pleased for those who went, but envious at the same time.
Maybe next time.
Those of us who stayed behind enjoyed a leisurely morning watching the Urubamba river
which runs right across the street from our hotel, or hitting the local market. Some just took the morning to catch up on some much needed sleep.
High Noon – the skies opened up just as we were to walk the block and a half to the train station. We all found our rain jackets, or found out which ones leaked. Then we were on our way in the train. If anyone thought of sleeping, that intention was interrupted by a costume figure – the she-devil?
This was followed up by a fashion show by the staff – beautiful clothing – all for sale.
We got off at Ollantaytampa and after chasing down one of the conductor with a guest’s credit card, we boarded a bus on our way to Cusco. Our first stop was at a Chicha
maker where we learned not only to how chicha is made, but also learned a really fun game called Feed the Frog.
Pat ended with the highest score! Congratulations Pat.
Next stop was our hotel and a lovely dinner and off to bed
to prepare for a busy trip to the Sacred Valley tomorrow.
