Megiddo-Caesarea-Bethlehem

Sunday on our way to Megiddo we passed Mt Tabor where the, Transfiguration took place. Our first stop was Megiddo which is also known as Armageddon. There have been in excess of 20 different civilizations uncovered at this site. Our first stop was a brief movie about the site, then an opportunity to look at the scale model which shows the various levels encountered. Many of us took advantage of the chance to walk through the excavated gate, by the North and South Stables, to the grain storage facility with its 2 stairwells, one to go up and the other down and then through the tunnel that was constructed to provide water to the city even in times of war. We walked down many stairs to get to the horizontal tunnel which ended outside the city, We all marvelled at the engineering involved.
The next stop was Caesarea on the Mediterranean. We came in at the top of the Amphitheatre where Bill read from Acts Ch.10 vs. 1-23 which tells the story of the baptising of the Gentile. Then we had the opportunity to wander through the site and gaze longingly at the Mediterranean. Back in the bus we viewed an Apse tree, which when dipped in oil will provide light for a prolonged period. Our wishes were answered as we drove to see the Aqueduct and while there enjoyed dipping our feet in the Mediterranean. The sand was silky the water warm, and we didn’t loose anyone to the undertow.
Feeling comfortably revived we drove for about an hour and a half, stopping in Bethlehem at the Christmas Tree Restaurant for lunch. It was a great stop, then it was on to shopping at the Kandoo store for all our take-home goodies.
When going to and from Bethlehem we had to stop at a couple of checkpoints, so had to have our passports handy. Due to the political situation, our guide had to meet us on the other side of the checkpoint as he was unable to go through the same checkpoint.
We were greeted at the Olive Tree Hotel by Raji Khoury from “Shepherds” Tours. After a brief discussion and a small drink we were off to our rooms for a much needed rest.
