Petra

What can be say about Tuesday’s adventures—about Petra? Some comments—amazing, awe-inspiring, incredible, organic, inspired, memorable, historical, breathtaking, unbelievable, fabulous, this is only a sample of the words that describe the assault on our visual sense that we experienced today—visiting Petra. A number took horses to the entrance to the SIQ, four took chariots to the treasury, the rest walked from the bus-stop to the SIQ and onto the Treasury. Along the way we learned a great deal of the history or Petra, Of the Nabataeans, their history and the reasons they built where they did and the manner in which they built. We learned that the Treasury was built where it was—as it was less likely to be damaged by the elements. We say dams that were put in place to protect the SIQ from floods when the rains come. We saw an amazing example of a theatre. Some went on to walk to up the Byzantine chapel, and onto the chapel with mosaic floor, and the Elephant Temple and the Winged Lion Temple. However far you walked or ventured you were amazed at the structures and architecture seen. We enjoyed the shopping at the Bazaar, finding some really good bargains, and picking up some great souvenirs. The rest is best experienced in pictures, including some of plants that looked just like tulips, but turned out to be a rather unpalatable onions. We then journeyed back to our hotel for a relaxing evening and getting ready for tomorrow and the balance of our experiences in Jordan.
