This morning we all got the chance to enjoy ourselves around the resort a Aqaba.
It is a beautiful location, with several swimming pools including a hot tub and of course easy access to the Bay of Aqaba on the Red Sea. Several went in swimming and marveled at the buoyancy of the water.
By 10:30 we had checked out and were headed for Wadi Rum. What an amazing place.
It is surreal—the vast expanse of desert punctuated by mountains of volcanic rock and sandstone.
There were many pictographs that had been carved in the rock face. At this point—it has been determined that
the pictographs
were similar to graffiti from centuries ago—where travelers carved their names on the rocks.
Then we were onto another area—a SIQ
which is a passage through the rocks, again with many carvings.
The pictures give some indication of this dramatic landscape. After a brief comfort stop where we met a Canadian Anthropologist, we stopped at a Bedouin camp for a sample of Arrack a drink similar to Ouzo.
Then onto our hotel in Petra—a little fun arranging rooms, then settled in for supper and a preparations for tomorrow.
