Friday and Saturday December 19th & 20th - Sydney - Auckland

Friday we spent the day doing laundry, posting the blog for the last 2 days, making a few more reservations, and getting ready for New Zealand, and our adventures upon our return to Australia after Christmas (more to follow!)
Saturday – started very early – we booked a cab to pick us up at 4 AM so we could be to the airport by our 7 AM flights. Well… the cab driver was a bit late – he figured it was only a 10 min drive to the airport. He had two young ladies in the car who asked if they could share the ride – our neighbourhood is party central on Friday night, so 4 AM was going home time for the party goers. Anyway – after they saw our luggage – they decided to find another cab.
At the airport – we learned that Air Canada had screwed up on Harry ticket – had registered it as Rev Steele Willian, so Air New Zealand said they couldn’t fix it so we would have to either get Air Canada to fix the name, or we would have to buy a new ticket. Guess what – Air Canada in Australia does not open at 6 AM on Saturday morning. Anyway – to make a long story short – we eventually found someone who could fix the ticket so we could get on - oh did I tell you the flight was delayed an hour and a half?
Anyway about 2 PM we arrived in Auckland, picked up our car and made our way to our hotel in downtown Auckland. The biggest challenge was getting out of the airport and onto the main road, then getting around the construction. Thanks to the Shell station attendant, and the shopper in the Home Improvement place, we eventually checked in to our very nice room and contacted Stella, Steve and Jackie (Barb’s brother-in-law’s family). We had a great evening in the hotel restaurant with them, lots of laughs, a little wine, some travel tips and all in all a wonderful evening.
Then it was off to bed early so we could have a good start tomorrow for our explorations of this beautiful country – North Island Only!
