Wednesday December 17th - Bondi Beach

Today was our day for a bit of R & R. We have been working so hard at being tourists, we decided we needed to relax, so off we went to the beach. Actually to Bondi Beach. This is located in an Eastern suburb of Sydney, along the coast. We walked to Kings Cross Train station and then went two stops to the end of the line at Bondi Junction. From here we hopped on a bus down to the beach (about another 10 minutes). As you can see from these pictures – this is another truly beautiful beach alive with sun worshippers, sun bathers and surfers. It is actually a 1 km curved strip of fine olden sand between two rocky headlands. The shops along the strip offer the usual array of clothing, surf boards, and any time of food or drink your little heart could desire. We set out to explore a bit in the morning, taking the Bondi to Bronte Walk which is a scenic 3.5 km Cliffside track with absolutely fabulous rock - I think Sandstone formations. Along the way we watched the waves crashing over this swimming pool (I am not too sure I would want to be swimming in the outside lanes), and were awe struck by the amazing rock formations. Harry quit after the third set of stairs, so Barb continued on until she was able to get this picture which is from Mackenzie Point looking out over the Tamarama Beach that is between Bondi and Bronte beaches. We walked back and found a place for our stuff on the beach, then walked along the water’s edge for the length of the beach. The next hour or so was devoted to reading and enjoying the sun. By around 2 we decided lunch was in order, so sauntered over to one of the dining establishments, each got a sandwich or wrap, then sat in the shade enjoying the cool shade. After lunch we realized that it was clouding over, and a stiff breeze was blowing over the water, so we packed up our stuff and headed for the nearest internet 7-11 where we down loaded the last 2 days blog. Around 4 we headed back via bus and train to Kings Cross and home. We discussed looking at the balance of our trip, so made our way to Tropicana CafĂ© where we looked at a few interesting sights and dealt with emails. Then a bit of shopping for supper, making supper and here I am preparing today’s blog. Tomorrow is forecast to be a bit of a cooler, or at least cloudier day, so we will stay in town and explore the Sydney Tower, the Museum, and a few other sites we have as yet been unable to take in. Should be a good day. We will also likely make a few reservations for the balance of our trip – like car rentals etc
