Monday - December 15th Sydney

Barb started the morning off with a 6 Km run up to McQuarrie’s Point. Then we headed out from our condo about 9 in the morning. We learned that if we bought a 7-day pass we could travel anywhere by train, bus or ferry for the rest of our stay for a mere $35, so we made the big investment, then off we were to the Sydney Opera House. We signed up for a tour of this magnificent structure. We learned that the architect that designed the Opera House passed away at ninety something just a few weeks ago. We really enjoyed our tour and tried to book tickets for Rolf Harris for Tuesday, unfortunately it is sold out, as are the Thursday and Friday shows.
From the Opera House we wandered over to the other side of the Circular Quay where we picked up a couple of sandwiches and sat in the sun and enjoyed a light lunch. The gulls begged and received our left overs. Then we walked over to the Sydney Harbour Bridge, walking to the mid point to take a few pictures. There is a “bridge climb” adventure, but we decided that Barb will represent our family tomorrow on the 3 hr walk to the top. Should be fun.
We then walked above the Quay into the Government House Grounds and enjoyed looking at the trees and flowers.

After a brief snack and beer on the deck of the Quay we headed back to the condo to pick up the computer and headed into the Café to download yesterday’s blog, and reserve a couple of night’s accommodation and car rental in New Zealand.
Tomorrow should be an interesting day.
I should let you know a bit about out condo. It is on the third floor of a rather old building in an area that is located with 3 km of the down town area. The train station is less than a km away. It is a one bedroom apartment with a kitchen-living room area and a bedroom-study area. (Unfortunately the study area doesn’t have a plug in, so I end up working on the computer in the living room.) We get lots of exercise running up and down the stairs. The area seems to be frequented by a few young families, but mainly by young people. I would guess that the homes were built in the 40’s or perhaps even before. Some are quite run down while others look fabulous. The red light area is just a few blocks away, so there is a fair amount of traffic in the area, but our street is pretty quiet. There are lots of wonderful restaurant and coffee shops within a block or two of our place - it is a very interesting neighbourhood.
