Sunday January 4th, 2009 - Harry's 75th Birthday!

One of our coffee in-out/gas up stops was a tourist information booth a couple of days ago where we gained some info for the balance of our trip in Queensland. drove south (about 370KM) as far as Bundaberg where we staying in a lovely motel called Villa Mirasol Motor Inn. On the way Harry received greetings from Lyle and Paul and from Dawn, Rick, Marcus and Kayla. Upon our arrival we got a lovely room with a Spa bath, and were greeted with a bottle of bubbly and chocolates courtesy of Lyle and Paul. What a delightful surprise!
We drove around the town a bit and saw this really neat - and old water tower.
Then we were off to supper and the Turtle Sanctuary at Mon Repos. The hope is that you get to watch the female turtles come into the beach, however – this was not an active night, and only one group actually got to go out to the beach before we left at 10:30. Our visit was not a total waste as we learned a great deal about these magnificent sea creatures and their habits, and the threat our habits have to their existance. Quite an education. We were to be in the 5th group, so it could have been all night. We chose instead to return to our room, crack open the champagne and enjoy the spa!

Tomorrow, we hope to get to the Australian Zoo were we should see some live Kangaroos. The only ones we have seen so far have been in very poor shape on the side of the road after loosing a fight with a car.
