This morning after a lovely and very complete breakfast we headed off to The Village of Malahide, and more specifically to Malahide Castle.
There we wandered through many rooms with a great collection of portraits and furniture that fit the setting. There was also a tea room and the compulsory gift shop. Then we were off for a tour of Dublin including, with Erica filling us in on the pertinent landmarks, and the rich history that accompanied many. We were then off to Trinity College, and a chance to view the Book of Kells. It truly is an amazing work of art compiled by many dedicated monks over the years. Those of us who went into the Trinity College Library were awe struck by the dark wood book stacks containing over a quarter million books. It is a magnificent site—unfortunately—no picture taking allowed. Most of us enjoyed a pub lunch and our first sample of Guinness –in Ireland. After lunch some members of the group returned to the hotel via the bus while others enjoyed exploring the streets of Dublin on foot. We gazed at the statue of Sweet Molly Malone,
and wondered at the amazing architecture of the Christ Church Cathedral.
. We took the traditional walk across the Ha'Penny Bridge
, enjoyed the Buskers in the Pedestrian Only shopping area,
, and looked way up to the top of the Millenneum Spire.
All arrived back in time for another wonderful dinner, then back to rooms to prepare for tomorrow.
